2008 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

While in high school, Brandon’s extracurricular activities include:

National Honor Society (11th & 12th);

Football (9th, 10th, 11th & 12th);

FFA (9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th);

Area XI FFA Reporter (2005-2006);

Quiz Bowl (11th, 12th); and

Student Council (Class Treasurer - 11th, 12th).

Honors and awards received include:

Football-Best offensive lineman;

Homecoming King;

FFA-Greenhand Award;

Scholarship Award; and

Contest Participant Physics Robotics Contest-1st Place.

Brandon is a member of Our Savior Kids at the Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Brandon occasionally helps his dad at Maher Brothers as well as helping with house chores and babysitting his nieces. Brandon hopes to get summer employment at General Mills.

Brandon wants to receive his baccalaureate in mechanical engineering and eventually receive a master's and doctorate. He hopes to one day move to North Carolina and get on a racing team as an engineer.

Ashten’s extracurricular activities include:

Girl Scouts for ten years;

4-H New Horizons for two years (secretary both years);

Varsity H Club;

Trend (SADD) for three years;

Chess Club for four years; and

Marching and concert band for six years.

Honors and awards received include:

Award medals and lettering in track-six gold, four silver, and five bronze medals; varsity letter with three pins.

Ashten’s community and other service activities including:

Mission trip to Matamoros, Mexico with the church;

Taught vacation bible school;

Church dinners;

Food drives;

Trash pick-ups;

Painting fences;

Rake-a-thons; and

Christmas cookies for the elderly.

Ashten works as a dietary aide in a nursing home as well as helping care for her grandparent’s cattle with feeding and putting up hay, etc. She helps her mother with her home daycare with pre-schooling activities and lunches.

Ashten wants to become an entrepreneur as a graphic designer designing signs, websites, commercials, and other projects in the growing technological world.

Mark’s community and other service activities include:

Lifetime member of St. George’s Church;

Parking cars at State Fair (2006);

National Honor Society Trash Pick-up (2006);

Big Spring Busy Beavers 4-H Club Trash Pick-Up (10 years);

St. George Catholic Church Confirmation Class Community Service (40 hours-2006); and

Gore Case Community Fundraising Dinner (nine years).

Mark works for his father’s trucking, excavating, and farming operations tending cattle, hay, crop production, hauling bulk commodities, and operating heavy equipment.

Mark wants to be part owner of his family’s trucking company and use his major in Agricultural Business to benefit the running of the company.
